In 1997 Jon competed in
his first competitions the Bogong Cup and The Canungra Classic
coming in at 3rd place in his division.
The day after graduating
high school in 1997 Jon ended up breaking his shoulder whilst
skateboarding, missing the competition season in ’98
but gained experience working at the “World Championships”
at Forbes.
Jon continued competition
flying throughout the years and in 2002 became the Australian
Champion. Jon then started competing overseas and gained
more experience from the international pilots. In the competitions
to follow throughout Australia since 2000, Jon has been
ranked eight times champion of the NSW State Titles and
in his own backyard The Canungra Classic.
In 2006 after having a great
season Jon was ranked number 1 on the world ranking system.
He has now competed in nearly 100 competitions and has been
ranked in the top five on the world rankings for the past
couple of years.
Jon is still seeking the
big title; World Champion and is hoping to achieve this
in the next couple of years.
When Jon is not overseas competing he commitments to the
local Gold Coast Hang gliding school, www.hangglidequeensland.com.au
in instructing new students.
